Bosnian pine (Pinus heldreichii), forest health status, forest fires, pathogens and insect pests, post-fire resilienceSažetak
This study assessed the health status, diameter and height structure, and post-fire resilience of Pinus heldreichii stands in selected high-mountain and karst areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Results confirmed the species high resistance to abiotic stressors such as frost, drought, and wind, and its ability to survive in degraded and rocky habitats. The most significant pathogens, including Heterobasidion annosum, Dothistroma sp., and Diplodia sapinea, primarily affected roots, stems, and needles, while other tree parts were impacted by pathogens of moderate or minor significance. Among pests, Ips sexdentatus and Thaumetopoea pityocampa mainly attacked stems and needles, highlighting the need for targeted protection. Forest fires significantly reduced stand volume and structure, increasing susceptibility to secondary pathogens and pests. Fagus sylvatica showed lower abundance and productivity, indicating limited post-fire adaptability. These findings provide essential data for stand management, protection strategies, and restoration planning of Pinus heldreichii forests in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
