Variability of volume proportion of 1 – 3 seriate wood rays in beech stems and branches (Fagus silvatica L.)

This paper presents the results of research on the variability of volume proportion of 1 – 3 seriate wood rays in the stem and branches (normal and tension wood) of beech (Fagus silvatica L.) from Management Unit „Kalin Radovan“ Bugojno.
Volume proportion of 1 – 3 row rays in the stem varies in the limits of 4.96 to
15.21 %, with average of 9.31 ± 0.128 % and standard deviation 1.35 ± 0.0902%.
Variation of volume proportion of 1 – 3 rows rays in normal branch wood is within the limits of 6.21 – 23.16 %, with average of 14.91 ± 0.145 % and standard deviation 3.40 ± 0.102 %.
In tension branch wood volume proportion of 1 – 3 rows rays is within the limits of 5.91 to 30.21 %, with average of 13,43 ± 0,135 % and standard deviation 3.17 ± 0.0954 %.
Volume proportion of 1 – 3 rows rays in normal branch wood is higher by
5.60 % than volume proportion in the stem and by 1.48 % from volume proportion in tension branch wood.
