Heights and widths of multiple row wood rays in beech stem and branches (Fagus silvatica L.)

This paper presents the results of research on variation of heights and widths of multiple row wood rays within beech stem (Fagus silvatica L.) and in normal and tension branch wood.
The height of multiple row wood ray in stem varies within following limits 0,335 – 3,428 mm (X = 1,421 ± 0,0557mm), in normal branch wood 0,164 – 1,498 mm (X = 0,647 ± 0,0137mm) and in tension branch wood (X = 0,663 ± 0,0139mm).
Multiple row wood rays are lower in normal branch wood for 0,744mm than rays in stem, and for 0,016 mm from multiple row rays in tension branch wood.
Width of multiple row rays varies within limits 0,035 – 0,265 mm (X = 0,109
± 0,00498 mm ) and branches in normal and tension wood; 0,012 – 0,249 mm (X = 0,097 ± 0,000261 mm) and 0,031 – 0,437 mm (X = 0,101 ±0,00297 mm ).
Multiple row wood rays in normal branch wood are narrower than wood rays in stem for 0,012 mm , and for 0,004 mm from rays in tension branch wood.
