Abstract

UDK 630*1:502/504(497.6)

Protected and specific areas of forests and forest soils in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina counts to 3,29 % out of the areas of forests and forest soils which are in the state ownership, that is, 1,62 % out of the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The protected areas of forests and forest soils in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina counts to 0,65 % out of the area of the forests and forest soils which are in the State ownership, that is, 0,32 % out of the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The following protection categories have been registered within these areas: virgin forest reserves, nature monuments, protected landscape, seed stands, mugho-pine areas, stands of white-bark pine and permanent experimental plots.

Specific areas of forests and forest soils (in extreme orographic and soil conditions) in the total fund of the area of forests and forest soils in the state ownership counts for 2,64 %, which is 1,30 % of the overall area of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. With regard to the specific quality of ecological conditions and frequent refuge character, these regions are characterized by specific vegetation cover of distinct biodiversity and gene base. Moreover, these areas are characterized by remarkable geo-morphological formations and hydrological phenomena which give them the character of exceptionally valuable natural complexes – natural reserves. Due to all these facts, these areas, as a matter of course, should be considered and defined as categories of protected areas.
